About This Quote

Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.  The concept that the meaning of life is happiness is not a new one. Aristotle said that happiness was the highest form of human happiness, one that everyone should seek to achieve. Happiness in the context of today’s society has become more complex. It can mean different things to different people and it can change over time (and indeed, our definition of happiness may change depending on how we approach it).

Furthermore, we can experience happiness in ways that do not necessarily involve ourselves or others. For example, we can be happy when we watch a good movie or read a good book. For our purposes here, we will define happiness as a positive emotion (such as joy, satisfaction, contentment, pleasure, etc.).
